Hillsborough Church Helps School Supply Collection

Mount Vernon United Methodist Church collected for Commission on the Status of Women's annual "Project First Class" program

Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, in Hillsborough, was a major contributor to the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women's annual “Project First Class” program collected school supplies for the children of families served by the Food Bank Network.

The commission recently delivered hundreds of school supplies to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County as part of the annual project.

Backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, markers, glue, paper and binders were among the many items donated by individuals, companies and organizations.

Other businesses and groups that took up collections this year included Allstate Insurance Co. in Bridgewater; Wilkins & Guttenplan, an East Brunswick CPA firm; Raritan Valley Community College Student Government; the sixth-grade “Light-A-Mind” club from Cedar Hill Prep School in Franklin; Brownie Troop 65452 in Green Brook; and a local Boy Scout troop.

The SCCSW serves as an advisory board to the Board of Chosen Freeholders to address present and potential needs of women and to develop a greater public awareness of women’s issues.  For more information, contact Commission Chair Paula Marasco at (908) 953-0791.
