Teams Looking For Momentum After Close Games

Week 2 shaping up to be exciting after many games came down to the wire to open the season.

Week 1 of the 2011 football season was full of close games in the Mid-State 39, with many teams winning by one touchdown or less. Going into Week 2, some teams that narrowly lost last week will look for their first win of the season. Other teams hope to remain on track after strong performances to start the season.

The Hillsborough Raiders started off their 2011 season and an outstanding performance by quarterback John Vonnesson. Now 1-0, the Raiders will face Franklin at 7 p.m. on Friday.

North Hunterdon also , in a close game against Watchung Hills. At the end, North Hunterdon was up by only six, 20-14. Similarly, Hillsborough squeaked by Bridgewater by one touchdown, but that game saw plenty of scoring. The final was 49-42.

Bridgewater, fresh off its loss, will face Westfield, which shut out Scotch Plains in Week 1, 17-0. Westfield got ahead early in the game, scoring in both the first and second quarters, and never let Scotch Plains come close to catching up.

Ridge, a team that lost last week to a tough Immaculata squad, faces another tough game this weekend, as well. The Red Devils will take on Montgomery, which held its own, but ultimately lost, to Union last week.

In one of the most hotly contested matchups last week, Elizabeth defeated Franklin.

Elizabeth has no time to rest, though. This weekend, it plays what might be one of their most trying games of the season against Hunterdon Central, which defeated Linden 27-14 in Week 1 and is projected by NJ.com to take first place in their division, a division that includes teams like Phillipsburg, Franklin and Ridge.
