Medal Mania for Jr. Raiders Track

Every participant on team grabs a podium spot at Dunellen meet.

The following information was provided by the Hillsborough Jr. Raiders track and field program.

The Hershey Track and Field meet at the youth track and footballs field in Dunellen on Saturday proved to be a successful event for the Hillsborough Jr. Raiders, as every participant for the team earned a medal.

In the under-9 division, Parker Taylor was first in the 50-meters with a time of 11.9 and Jerry Lee Smith showed a strong third. For the girls, Kennedy Parker came in first with a time of 9.6 and Sydney Salvacion came in third with a time of 9.9 in a competitive race. The older boys also showed well with strong runs by Philip Voronin and Joe LaForte

The 100-meter dash for the girls had Sydney Salvacion and Diana Voronin running strong in their heats. In the older division, Kelsey Vieira came in first with a time of 14.2. In the 11/12 boys division, Dale Jules ran third with a strong time of 16.8 on a slippery track. The other boys who showed well in this event included Michael Watts, Nick Angelo and Philip Voronin.

In the 200-meters girls Kennedy Parker came in second in her heat. Kelsey Vierira captured first place in the older division with a time of 29.7. Nick Angelo came in first for the boys 11/12 division with a time of 32.7 and in the younger boys Sam Renz ran a very strong second and recorded his best time in this event.

The longer runs did not deter the Jr. Raiders from placing high in the results. In the 400-meters girls older division Kelly Cianciola came in first. The younger girls had Diana Voronin capturing second in her group. The younger boys also did very well with Parker Taylor capturing first in the under-9 group with a time of 1.51 and a very gutsy effort by Sam Renz who came in third in the 9/10 age group even after losing his sneaker in the first turn.

In other events the Jr. Raiders did very well, including the girls standing long jump by Diana Voronin with 5 feett, 9 inches and Joe Laforte tossing a soft ball over 62 feet. The final event, the 4x100 relays earned the entire Jr. Raiders crew the gold.
