In Division 1 (ages 12-14) action, the USC Trojans led by Jordan Foust on defense and Mike Everett on special teams provided the big plays to lead the USC Trojans to a 19-0 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  Foust led the team in tackles and played his best game of season.  Everett blocked a punt that put the Trojans in great field position and directly led to a touchdown.  Brandon Bessasparis and Evan Dunigan powered the offense with their outstanding blocking.  Luke Yakely scored one touchdown and Brandon Moore scored two touchdowns to lead the effort for USC.

Also in Division 1 (ages12-14) play, the Ole Miss rebels suffered their second loss of the season by a score of 13-12, in another hard-fought, down to the wire battle vs. the LSU Tigers. Ole Miss once again jumped out to an early lead on a long touchdown run by Brandin Nork.  Nork ran right, cut back to the left, where Matt Schultz and Tyler Welches set blocks. John Getz sealed the outside as Nork raced 45 yards for the score. The PAT attempt failed as QB Jack Boskin’s pass went off the fingertips of TE Josh Mcdevitt. The first quarter ended with a 6-0 Rebels lead.   As the 2nd quarter began, LSU tied the score on a long 50-yard pass. Kent Hilden got behind the defense and pulled in the pass and ran untouched into the end zone. The try for the point was broken up by Ben Versaci and the score stayed 6-6.  The game stayed that way, with the defenses controlling the game. Linebackers Patrick Cahill and Max Nelson kept the inside running game in check. Steven Rudd and McDevitt contained the outside. Just before the half was about to end, LSU punted the ball to Ole Miss. Nork took the punt and ran down the left sideline. He got a big block from Steven Rudd, and took it all the way for another touchdown and a 12-6 Ole Miss lead. Boskin’s pass was again deflected as the 1st half came to an end.

Ole Miss received the 2nd half kickoff and appeared to score on another Nork long return. The play was nullified on a penalty, pinning Ole Miss deep in their own end. After failing to pick up the first down they were forced to punt. LSU set up a good return down to the Ole Miss 20. A few plays later they were able to capitalize on a 1 yard run and conversion taking the lead at 13-12.  The defense’s controlled much of the remainder of the game with hard hits causing several turnovers.  Kyle Richardson led the Rebels with 6 solo tackles and Josh Villa intercepted a pass. Ole Miss had several promising drives that ended with them turning the ball over. Their final chance came with under a minute to play. Nork, who finished with 156 yards rushing, ripped off another long one setting up Ole Miss for one final play. Boskin’s Hail Mary pass to Artun Peker was broken up ending the game.

The Division 3 (ages 8-10) Penn State Nittany Lions remain undefeated, beating the LSU Tigers 8-0 in a defensive battle.  With two turnovers by the offense inside the LSU 10 yard line the Penn State defense took matters into their own hands.  With LSU backed up to its own two-yard line after a Penn State fumble, nose guard Andrew Rygiel and Linebackers Alex Marsh and Matthew Michinard tackled LSU running back Tom Ramsey for a safety and a two point lead.  Only leading 2-0 in the second half the defense, led by Rygiel, Marsh and Michinard as well as key contributors Anthony Shields, Justin Dietrich, Loukas Ganas and Kyle Clark along the defensive line and safeties Josh Quick and Ryan Diaz forced a turnover.  The Lions offense took over from there, pounding the ball up the middle with Justin Dietrich carrying most of the load and key blocks by offensive linemen Michael Marvosa, Matthew Kent, Dylan Valis and Matthew Conlon.  From just outside the LSU thirty-yard line, Michinard swept around the left end, aided by key blocks from Tight End Nicholas Klementowicz and running mates Kyle Clark and Alex Marsh to seal the victory.

Evan Adinolfe led a long first drive at quarterback, running for a 30-yard gain on a bootleg before stalling deep in Giants territory. Later in the game, the Saints’ Brett Cerenzio broke loose down the right side with some nifty moves before being stopped by a diving touchdown-saving play. The defensive charge was led by Griffin Conroy and Brady MacKenzie, who grabbed his two first flags of the year.  The Giants’ James Barone scored a touchdown on a sweep play and QB Nikolas Koll got the ball to Ryan Tasetano for another touchdown. Jayce Lonieswki, James Curley and Corey Derasmo had strong running plays and Chris Dinardi helped the Giants get downfield on a successful QB Bootleg.  Among the successful defensive plays Andrew Vanlangen's first quarter flag pull was notable for the Giants.

Also in Flag (ages 5-6), the Rookie Gold tried out a new quarterback this week, Matthew Gaspar.  He did a tremendous job controlling the Gold offense.  Blair Yusko had an outstanding run that brought the Rookie Gold to the 5-yard line.  Defensively the Rookie Gold stopped the offense from gaining yardage.  John Kelly and Hudson Rhu were powerhouses on the line.  The Rookie Maroon team also played an outstanding game.  On offense, Jake Battagliese threw the first pass ever attempted in the rookie league.   Then it was caught and taken in for a touchdown by Ian McCauley.  The defense was led by Maroon’s speedy linebacker Sanav Sathish.
