Dukes Honor Student Athletes

Pop Warner group recognizes football players and cheerleader's academic success.

The Hillsborough Dukes recently announced its scholar-athletes—students who maintain high grade point averages while participating in Pop Warner Football and Cheer programs.

In all, 28 Hillsborough Dukes athletes made the National Academic All American teams, including Kaitlyn Gahrmann who was also 2010 Eastern Region 2nd Team Pop Warner Scholar Athlete.

The National Academic All American Team qualifiers include: Nicole Sacca, Rachael Levonaitis, Casey Kenny, Marissa Londenberg, Brianne Nissel, Courtney Nissel, Shelby Lubowicki, Gianna Sabo, Lucas Pick, Skyler Springs, Samari Springs, Zachary Luceno, Madison Hofmeister, Kasey Hamilton, Amber Holmon,Matthew Hendrix, Trevor Medawar, Tanner Johnson, Kristen Coiley, Scot Levonaitis, Marisa Mazuera, Chloe Shortino, Edward Trimpert, Kyle Wengryn, Kaitlyn Gahrmann, Kerry Jones, Rebecca Delaney, Erio Rosario, Ryan Applegate, Jakob Harmon, Stephen Grober, Kelsey Kepniss, Courtney Scrivanich, Takenya Herman and Ellen Guerra.

In addition, Hillsborough Dukes James Langdon Award winners were also recognized. The James Langdon award is named in honor of a former Dukes Player who served his country as a US Marine. The student's all in grades 5-8 received a 90% average or better in the five major subjects (Math, Science, Reading, Writing and Social Studies) during the first marking period of 2011 while involved in football and cheer season.

Langdon Award scholars include: Samantha Compell, Kelsey Kepniss, Emily Van Pelt,Anthony Lopez, Christopher Kimock, Quintin Gibbs, Eric Booth, Mark McLain, Luke Finer, Rebecca Delaney, Monika Bielen, Nicolette Kanellos, Chloe Shortino, Marisa Mazuera, Renee Kinzler, Stephen Grober and Lucas Pick.

These students were honored at our banquet last December and achieved a GPA of 96% or better for the 1st marking period of 2010 while managing the demands of both school and their pop Warner seasons.
