During this year’s Celebration of Red Ribbon Week, The Hillsborough Township Life Skills Committee and the Hillsborough/Millstone Municipal Alliance held a contest for all fourth through eighth grade students to design and submit a CD cover that conveyed a positive drug-free message.
This year, the Hillsborough/Millstone Municipal Alliance received and judged over 450 entries. The winning CD covers were chosen based on their anti-drug message and how it was conveyed on the CD cover.
The winning CDs are currently on display in the Township Municipal Building. All winners were awarded a gift certificate for a local book store, and an awards ceremony was held to honor the contest winners.
The Alliance chose three grand prize winners:
Grade Prize Winner: Katrina Liu,
Grand Prize Winner: Diana Voronin,
Grand Prize Winner: Natasha Lippe,
The Alliance named 20 honorable mentions:
Maya Karkhanis ,
The October contest had the students creating an anti-drug CD cover with artwork and song titles, according to the district. Some students created these as part of their computer class, while other students created them at home. Understanding that parents are an important part of keeping children drug-free, students were encouraged to talk to their families about their ideas for their CD cover.
