It's been a year for celebrating at Woodfern Elementary School, and soon the school will be having its official party to recognize an accomplishment 50 years in the making.
The school will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All current and former students and staff members are invited back to join in the celebration.
The school will be open to allow visitors to tour the building. There will also be carnival activities for kids, as well as food and drinks.
The school was constructed in 1961 and opened its doors to staff and students in kindergarten through sixth grade in 1962, according to information released by the school district. The building originally had 20 classrooms, but over the years has had two additions, one in 1986 and one in 1994. Woodfern is currently home to approximately 375 students in grades kindergarten through fourth grade.
