Achievements Abound In School District

Scholarships, robotics and teacher milestones among those noted by superintendent.

Hillsborough Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jorden Schiff had a long list of individuals in the district who were recently recognized for outstanding accomplishment, and he shared them at the 's meeting on Monday night. Students, teaachers and teams were all on the list. 

  • Schiff recognized for her painting “Inheritance,” which won the 2012 National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards American Visions Medal. The painting was a portrait of former Olympian Joetta Clark Diggs, and was .
  • Schiff also honored the Hillsborough High School RoboRaiders, as the team is currently competing in the Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, Mo., after capturing the coveted Chairman’s Award at the Mid-Atlantic Championships, which were held at Temple University. The award, according to Schiff, “honors an exemplary team who not only has a great robot, but promotes the science, engineering and mathematics fields in the community.”
  • Schiff also noted that Sarah Wilson, a Hillsborough High School senior, was recently the recipient of the National Merit Scholarship Award. Wilson will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall.
  • The district’s teachers have not been without notable accomplishments. Hillsborough High School Spanish teacher Cynthia Sobreyra has been named both the Hillsborough High School and Somerset County Teacher of the Year. According to Schiff, “The Somerset County panel saw a teacher leader who makes an impact in her school.”
  • Finally, Schiff praised Triangle Elementary School special education teacher Tori Wargo for her documentary film, “.” The film, which examines the ways autism touches various members of a community, premiered at Tusk Restaurant in Montgomery on April 19.
