Hillsborough Senior a Semifinalist For Prestigious Honor

senior Rachael Van Pelt has been named a semifinalist in the 2012 U.S. Presidential Scholarship Program.

Approximately 550 semifinalists were selected from more than 3,300 candidates. They were chosen based on their achievements, leadership qualities, personal character, and involvement in community and school activities.

The Commission on Presidential Scholars, a group of citizens appointed by President Barack Obama, will select one male and one female student from each state, with the honorees being announced in May.

Those selected will be invited to Washington, D.C., in June to receive the U.S. Presidential Scholars medallion at a recognition ceremony. They will also participate in various activities  and events held in their honor.
