Hillsborough First District to Receive CERT Trailer

Equipment to be jointly used by the school district and the township CERT program.

The accepted Monday night the donation of a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trailer and equipment.

The trailer is valued at $3,330, the equipment is valued at $5,500 for the trailer and $1,000 from other supplies from the Citizen Corps N.J. program and the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management.

The trailer and equipment will be used jointly by the school board and the Hillsborough Township CERT program.

Scott Rocco, assistant superintendent for human resources, said the trailer was expected to be picked up Wednesday and brought to the school district where it will be stored at Bloomingdale School.

Rocco also said Hillsborough was the only school district in the state to be given a trailer by the state.

Rocco thanked John Sheridan, director of the township’s Office of Emergency Management, and Dave Gwin, chief of the Hillsborough Rescue Squad, with helping to get the trailer.

CERT members, all volunteers, give critical support to first responders in emergencies, provide immediate assistance to victims, organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site, and collect disaster intelligence to support first responder efforts.
