High School Graduation May be Going on the Road

Weather, cost prompt a search for alternate sites for next year's commencement.

Future graduations may not be held on Raider Boulevard.

Superintendent of Schools Jorden Schiff told the school board on Monday that “alternate sites” will be considered for graduation.

The district last year also , but ultimately kept the ceremony at the high school.

For the second consecutive year, students, parents and staff members had to cope with difficult weather conditions.

Graduation in 2011 had to be moved indoors because of rainy weather. featured temperatures last Thursday in the 90s as Central Jersey sweltered during the first heat wave of the year.

“It was very hot,” Schiff said.

Schiff congratulated staff members and administrators for dealing with the sultry conditions.

This was the first year that graduation, on the football field, was streamed lived on the Internet, allowing relatives and friends across the country to see graduation.

Board member Greg Gillette agreed with Schiff about the need to explore other sites.

Gillette said another site would “probably be less expensive” if the district considered the costs, including labor and renting chairs.
