Girls Scout Troop Encourages Environmental Awareness

The girls in Troop 392 hope to curb vehicle idling at Hillsborough schools.

  • Whiz Kid's Name: Girl Scout Troop 392
  • Whiz Kid's Age: The girls are Girl Scout Cadets, a program for girls in grades six through 12.
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: The girls in Troop 392 have been working to improve the environment in Hillsborough, culminating with an anti-idling campaign that extends to the elementary schools.  In addition to having the board sign an anti-idling pledge, the girls will be working with several elementary schools to make families aware of the environmental damage idling cars cause and asking families at those schools to sign anti-idling pledges.
  • Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness (what made him/her successful?): Determination, research and persuasion!  The girls needed to present their case to both the Board of Education and to the parents at the school they'll focus on—Amsterdam Elementary.
