Hillsborough High School Band Home Show

The Hillsborough High School Marching Band Festival has come a long way since it began eighteen years ago.  During its humble beginnings, seven bands came to Hillsborough to compete in the USSBA circuit. However, with its great reputation amongst other New Jersey schools the festival has grown to such an extent that a record breaking 28 bands varying in size from 40 to 250 members will be competing this year.

The competition begins with a Group II marching band, which consists of approximately 41 members including both musicians and colorguard. As the day progresses, larger bands will perform, including four Group VI bands, the largest of which has 250 members. The evening culminates with our own Hillsborough Raider Marching Band performing, in exhibition, their 2011 show entitled “The Glory of Light.” It is truly exciting to watch all the bands compete within their groups for not only first place, but for Best Music, Visual, Overall Effect, Percussion and Colorguard as well.

Over the past few years, the Hillsborough Raider Marching Band’s reputation has grown under the direction of Jules Haran and it is now a Group V band with 119 members; 92 musicians and 27 in the colorguard. The marching band members learn the value of a strong work ethic, accountability, responsibility, leadership, sacrifice, and pride in a positive competitive environment.
