Celebration of Seuss Comes to Hillsborough Schools

Read Across America Day is a tradition in the school's six elementary schools.

Seuss hats, books written by the entire school, guest readers and more flooded each Hillsborough Elementary School last week, as the six schools celebrated what's become a favorite tradition for students and teachers—Read Across America Day, held March 2.

With guest readers from the community, Board of Education and central office—and in some cases, the New Jersey Devils—visiting several schools, the day marks the anniversary of Dr. Seuss's birth.

And each of the schools created its own celebration for the day.

At Hillsborough Elementary School students dressed in Seuss-style clothing, held door-decorating contests and watched first graders perform a music concert for their peers.  The each class at the school collaborated on a school-wide book, There's a Boffice in the Office, that's sure to become a school classic.

Amsterdam Elementary brought guest readers to visit students as well as inviting the students to dress for the day.

Triangle Elementary spread its celebration over three days, beginning with a professional story teller assembly on Feb. 28.  The school then celebrated Cozy Up With a Good Book by inviting students and staff to wear pajamas to school—and had a play-by-play reading of "Green Eggs and Ham" by NJ Devils commentator Matt Loughlin.  The school concluded its celebration with community guest readers on March 2.
