Nominating petitions must include the signatures, names, residences and post office addresses of 10 residents.  While candidates can sign their own petitions, all of the signers must be registered voters in the school district, according to the New Jersey School Boards Association.  When signing the petitions, residents agree to endorse the candidate and believe the candidate’s name should appear on the ballot.  They also attest that the candidate is legally qualified to be a school board member.
