Hillsborough Ranked a 'Top Booming Suburb' in New Jersey

Hillsborough was ranked as the third "Top Booming Suburb" in New Jersey in a new survey conducted by Coldwell Banker.

For a town to be classified as a "booming suburb," the real estate agency worked with Onboard Infomatics to take into account home ownership percentage, job availability, gas affordability, safety factors, cultural and outdoor activities, median disposable income and more.

Hillsborough came in third in the top-3 for the whole state, with Bridgewater and Bernards ranked first and second respectively. Other towns in the top-10 include Randolph, Roxbury, Rockaway, Mount Olive, Fort Lee and Mahwah. 

The "Top Booming Suburbs" survey is part of the larger "Best Places to Live" survey, which includes more than 1,500 communities in the country.

"Hillsborough has a population of 38,477 and has shown 5.0 percent growth since 2000," according to survey results

The data shows that out of 13,683 households in Hillsborough, approximately 83.9 percent of homes are owned, 12.8 percent are rented and 3 percent are currently unoccupied. About 38 percent of homes in Hillsborough have been occupied by the same person for the past five years and the median age of a Hillsborough home is 19 years.

"Somerset County offers a desirable mix of quality suburban life and ease of commute to places of business across the tri-state area," said Hal Maxwell, president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in New Jersey and Rockland County, NY. “We see a consistent influx of buyers looking to establish a home and lifestyle in Somerset County communities.”
