The Professional Service Group of Central New Jersey’s pursuit to become a tax-exempt organization has advanced, thanks to U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance’s intervention.
Nearly one year ago, the IRS received PSGCNJ’s documentation and cashed its check without providing any service in regards to the nonprofit’s 501(c)3 status.
Last month, Congressman Lance (R-7th N.J. Dist.) made an official inquiry into the case with the IRS. On Oct. 29, the IRS formally assigned a case manager to the PSGCNJ file and indicated that the agency would provide a status report to Lance by the end of this month.

“We are extremely grateful to have Congressman Lance fighting for us,” said PSGCNJ Executive Director Kenneth Hitchner. “We would not be able to continueto continue putting New Jersey professionals back to work in the long term without 501(c)3 status, which would allow us to raise sufficient funding to continue our innovative programs.”
“My office stands ready to assist constituents,” said Congressman Lance. “I am happy to see PSGCNJ be in a better position to assist those in need and get good people into well-paying jobs. I thank them (PSGCNJ) and congratulate them for the work that they do.”

"During 16 months operating as an independent organization, PSGCNJ has helped 166 unemployed professionals return to work. Dating back to its beginnings as a state program, PSGCNJ has helped more than 820 unemployed professionals return to work since June 2008.
The majority of PSGCNJ employed members have returned to the workforce in fewer than 26 weeks from June 2008 through April 2013, which is about twice
as fast as in the rest of America. In addition, 65 percent of employed members returned to work in fewer than 39 weeks, about 30 percent faster than the rest of professionals in their mid-50’s.
