Officials Spreading Fire Prevention Awareness

Urging the creation and practice of a home escape plan, while also visiting Hillsborough schools.

The Township Committee has proclaimed Oct. 7-13 as Fire Prevention Week.

Mayor Carl Suraci and the Township Committee presented the proclamation on Tuesday to fire marshals John Yanko and Charles Naura.

The theme of this year’s national Fire Prevention Week is “Have Two Ways Out!”. That is a reminder for families to develop and practice a home fire escape plan.

A flyer on how to develop a home escape plan can be found on the township’s website.

“We want to get the message out,” Yanko said, adding that fire officials are willing to answer any questions that residents might have.

The fire marshals are visiting township schools this week as part of the Fire Prevention Week activities.
