Township Opens Annual Art Show to County Entries

As many as 300 submissions expected for show offering $4,500 in prizes.

Hillsborough's burgeoning annual art show sponsored by the township's Cultural Arts Commission returns for a ninth season, adding entries from residents across the county.  

“This Art Show is an excellent opportunity for Hillsborough residents to enjoy and admire the work of the very talented local artists," Committeewoman Gloria McCauley, liaison to the Cultural Arts Commission, said. "We are particularly excited to see the latest addition to the township’s public art collection."

Each year, a portrait of a signifcant township person painted by a local artist is unveiled at the show—, and in 2011, a portrait of Doris Duke by Pat Fritz was presented.

Cultural Art Commission Chairman Kevin Murphy painted and donated the first painting in the collection, which is a portrait of the Late Assemblyman Peter J. Biondi.  Each year the student grand prize winner earns the opportunity to work with Mr. Murphy to create the next portrait of a notable Hillsborough resident to be unveiled at the exhibit and added to the township’s collection.

As many as 300 works are expecetd for this year's show, as artists compete for judge's reognition and $4,500 in prizes. The show will open to the public in the Peter J. Biondi Municipal Building at 7 p.m. April 26.   
 
Prizes totaling $4,500 will be awarded in the various categories of High School Fine Art, High School Photography, Adult Fine Art and Adult Photography.  Artwork and photography will be judged by a group of world class professional artisans working in a number of disciplines.  The Art Festival is accepting both High School and Adult work from all Somerset County residents and those who study at schools within the County.
