New Coordination Center Unveiled at Medical Center

Hillsborough Township administrator, OEM coordinator see center aimed at tracking public health issues.

Hillsborough Township officials recently toured the Medical Coordination Center at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.

The Medical Coordination Center is one of nine in the state established by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services to enhance statewide capability to communicate and disseminate information within the public health care system during large scale public health emergencies.

Opened in 2008, the facility serves the state’s Central West Region, which includes Somerset, Hunterdon and Mercer counties.

Mayor Frank DelCore, Township Administrator Anthony Ferrera and OEM Coordinator John Sheridan observed a demonstration of how the Medical Coordination Center monitors health emergencies throughout the region and state. The demonstration was hosted by Ken Bateman, president and CEO of Somerset Medical Center, Glenn McCreesh, chief operating officer, and Kathy Price, director of Emergency Preparedness and Response at Somerset Medical Center.

Somerset Medical Center, in collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, recently celebrated the opening of the Medical Coordination Center for the state’s Central West Region, which includes Somerset, Hunterdon and Mercer counties.

The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has chosen Somerset Medical Center as New Jersey’s ninth Medical Coordination Center. Medical Coordination Centers enhance statewide capability to communicate and disseminate information within the public health care system during large-scale public health emergencies, when people throughout New Jersey could need emergency medical care.
