Township Committee Honors Three Eagle Scouts

Hillsborough High School juniors are members of Troop 489

Three juniors were honored earlier this month by the Township Committee for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

The three Scouts—David Deppen, Erik John Koehr and Joe Welches—are members of Troop 489 where 30 scouts have reached Eagle Scout rank since 2003.

“The township committee is very proud of them,” Mayor Carl Suraci said before presenting the Eagle Scouts with proclamations. “We wish them much luck in their future endeavors.”

Deppen’s Eagle Scout project was helping to preserve the exterior of a historic house in Millstone. He aided in removing nails from the original siding, priming the lower half of the house and cleaning up debris.

Koehr’s project was building an outdoor bulletin board at the Oak Springs Girl Scout Camp along the Delaware and Raritan Canal in Franklin. The bulletin board allows park rangers with information on the camp and also serves as a barrier to unwanted car traffic.

Welches’s project was the construction of a stray animal holding pen at the municipal complex to be used by the Hillsborough Police Department and Health Department. The pen will be use to house lost pets until they are reunited with their owners.
