Paper Shredding Day Aims to Prevent Identity Theft
Hillsborough event open to Somerset County residents.
A free paper-shredding day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 18 in Hillsborough Township, for Somerset County residents interested in destroying old documents.
The shredding will take place at the Hillsborough Department of Public Works’ Auten Road facility, which is south of the Norfolk-Southern Railroad tracks and across from the athletic fields at Auten Road Intermediate School. It is open to residents in all of Somerset County’s 21 municipalities.
The shredding event is made possible through a Somerset County Freeholders sponsored program, “Operation Secure Shred”. It is courtesy of the Somerset County Division of Consumer Protections.

Staples and paperclips do not have to be removed from documents prior to shredding. Residents may use any kind of container to hold their documents and the containers will be returned once the papers have been shredded.
Residents are also welcome to stay and watch the shredding process.
Those who are unable to attend the Hillsborough shredding day can attend another county shredding day. The events will run until October, with the next one occurring from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 16 at Montgomery Fire Company No. 1, at 35 Griggstown Road in Montgomery.
