Obama State Director to Visit Community Day

Hillsborough Democrats hosting event on April 14.

The head of President Barack Obama's re-election campaign in New Jersey will take part in the Hillsborough Democratic Organization's "Democrats 2012 Community Day."

Jackie Cornell-Bechelli will provide an update on the campaign during the start of the day. The event is being held on April 14 from at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hillsborough Point Clubhouse on Render Drive. The event is free and open to the public.

The first-time Democratic event will allow attendees to stop at the help desk to receive and complete voter registration and vote-by-mail applications, declare their party affiliation, sign up to be a campaign volunteer, visit the Democratic store to purchase campaign memorabilia, or participate in a poll on Hillsborough local issues.

“This event is for people who would like to learn more about the election process and how they can become involved as a volunteer as well as meet fellow Democrats from Hillsborough, the county and the state,” Michael Goldberg, Chairman of the Hillsborough Democratic Organization, said.

State and local elected officials and Democratic candidates are expected to be on hand between 10 a.m. and noon during the “Obama for President Caucus” and "Meet & Greet" sessions.

“We will have lots of information to help residents become active in the 2012 election and to stay involved,” said Community Day organizer Sonya Martin.

Those who have an interest in particular issues can spend a couple of hours at one of the special panel discussions scheduled below:

  • 1 p.m.–Women’s Health Issues
  • 2 p.m.–Public Education Issues & Legislative Updates
  • 3 p.m.–Voter Rights, Voter Suppression & Lawsuits
