Newark Mayor Cory Booker to Stump for Local Dems

Sets appearance at May 5 event for Democratic legislative candidates.

Arguably New Jersey's leading Democrat, Newark Mayor Cory Booker will be appearing at a May 5 fundraiser in Hillsborough for local state Assembly and Senate candidates.

Booker has announced his plans to run for the U.S. Senate in 2014, after seven years as mayor.

The luncheon for Democratic Assembly candidates Marie Corfield and Ida Ochoteco, and Senate candidate Christian Mastrondrea, opens with a noon reception for Booker at the Hillsborough-Manville Elks Club, 1500 Brooks Blvd., Hillsborough. Tickets to the VIP reception are $500.

Admission to the general reception, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., is $50.

Hillsborough resident Mastondrea has made several bids for office, including a 2011 run for a seat on the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and a prior bid for the Township Committee. He is seeking the state Senate seat held by Christopher Bateman, of Branchburg.

Ochoteco, also a Hillsborough resident, is making her first bid for office. She and Corfield are seeking election to the seats held by Donna Simon, of Flemington—who beat Corfield in the 2012 election to complete the term of Peter Biondi, and Hillsborough resident Jack Ciattarelli.

Those interested in attending the luncheon can send checks payable to:

  • Corfield for Assembly, 9 Paddock Lane, Flemington, NJ 08822;
  • Ida Ochoteco for Assembly, 60 Deanna Dr., Apt. 154, Hillsborough, NJ 08844;
