New Faces Needed in Trenton

A Hillsborough resident cites taxes, cutbacks and layoffs as reasons for new representatives in Trenton.

To the Editor:

The 16th legislative district needs new representatives in Trenton to replace Senator Bateman and Assemblyman Biondi.  These two individuals have been in office too long.  This year the voters have an opportunity to elect fresh new voices and end one party Republican representation. Under the Republicans, property taxes continue to skyrocket; the wealthy do not pay their fair share, middle class incomes decline, Senior citizen Rebates diminish, unemployment increases, and our schools and police force experience cutbacks and layoffs.

The quality of life in the both the 16th district and Somerset County is eroding and we need to elect people with a new vision and perspective. We need leaders that will work to preserve the American dream for all and not just for a few. Neither Bateman nor Biondi voted for the Millionaires tax bill.  That was unacceptable given the way in which the State Budget cuts have impacted middle class taxpayers, the poor, unemployed, and women’s health services.

NJ has a higher unemployment rate than the national average. Our infrastructure is falling apart. Our state credit rating has been downgraded. All as Republican legislators sustained the Governor’s vetoes of progressive bills that would have addressed our State’s economic problems. I have lived in Somerset County and Hillsborough most of my life and it is time to elect Hillsborough resident , Maureen Vella to the Senate, and Marie Cofield and Joe Camarota for State Assembly.  They are the right people at the right time for residents of the l6 th Legislative district.
