McCauley, Tomson Win Town Committee Terms

Town sees about 22 percent of voters at General Election.

Incumbent Mayor Gloria McCauley and newcomer Douglas Tomson will fill the two open Township Committee seats, with about 22 percent of Hillsborough voters casting ballots this year.

McCauley, who will serve her second three-year term on the Township Committee, received 3,973 votes. Tomson, who ran on the Republican ticket, received 3,710 votes.

"My head is spinning," McCauley said. "You never know what is going to happen until it happens. Our record speaks for itself."

"It's very exciting," Tomson said. "I'm very humbled and honored to get as many votes as I did. It's a credit to the Township Committee and the job that they did.

Democrats Aldo Martinez and John Reddan received 2,180 and 2,115 votes.

The District 16 legislative race saw Hillsborough residents favoring residents Pete Biondi and Jack Ciatarelli for State Assembly. They also favored Branchburg resident Christopher “Kip” Bateman for State Senate. All three ran on the Republican ticket.

Biondi received 3,781 votes from Hillsborough residents, Ciatarelli 3,729, and Bateman 3,783.

Hillsborough resident Maureen Vella, who ran as a Democratic candidate for State Senate, received 2,293 votes from Hillsborough residents. Her running mates, Joe Camarota, of South Brunswick, and Marie Corfield, of Flemington, received 2,259 and 2,305 votes from Hillsborough residents.

While the Republicans claimed the District 16 results for Hillsborough, tallies are pending results from South Brunswick, Princeton Township and Princeton Borough, and other District 16 towns.

In the Board of Chosen Freeholders race, Hillsborough residents favored incumbents Peter Palmer and Bob Zaborowski, who recive 3,742 and 3,656 votes, respectively.

Their Democratic challengers, Wes Ifan and Christian Mastondrea, received 2,194 and 2,282 votes.
