Hillsborough Fire Marshal Earns Professional Moniker

Chief Fire Marshal Christopher Weniger, of the Hillsborough Bureau of Fire Safety, earned the professional "Fire Marshal" title from the Commission on Professional Credentialing after completing three-years of study and documenting activities.

Weniger was recognized for the accomplishment at Tuesday's Township Committee meeting.

The commission met Feb. 5 to officially confer the designation upon Chief Fire Marshal Weniger. Chief Fire Marshal Weniger is one of only 52 FM’s worldwide and is the first and the only fire official to hold the title in New Jersey.

The CPC awards the FM designation only after an individual successfully meets all of the organization’s stringent criteria. The process includes an assessment of the applicant’s education, experience, professional development, technical competencies, contributions to the profession, and community involvement. In addition, All applicants are required to identify a future professional development plan.

The FM designation program uses a comprehensive peer review model to evaluate candidates seeking the credential.

The Commission on Professional Credentialing, an entity of the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc., (CPSE) administers the FM Designation Program. Chief Fire Marshal Weniger has been a member of the Hillsborough Fire Safety Bureau for 22 years.
