Groups Receiving Almost $3K From Town Credit Card

Resource center, senior exercise program, dancers and scouts are awarded grants.

Four township groups will be sharing the latest proceeds from the township’s credit card program.

Sharing the $2,804 will be the Resource Center of Somerset County, the Senior Low-Impact Exercise Program, Boy Scout Troop 89 and the Hillsborough Rockettes dance troupe.

The four groups received their money at Tuesday’s Township Committee meeting.

The Resource Center of Somerset County will use the money as general support of its program to aid victims of domestic abuse. The exercise program will purchase a stationary bike with its money while the Rockettes will buy new audio equipment for their performances. The scouts will use their money to buy a new first aid kit and new backpacks.

The groups were selected to receive the funds through an application process in September. The township’s Credit Card Advisory Committee selected the groups based on the criteria outlined in the application process.

Under the program, township residents and businesses can sign up for the special Hillsborough Township credit card issued by Affinity Federal Credit Union.

A portion of every charge made to the card is returned to the township to be given to non-profit groups.

In 2012, a total of $7,830 has been awarded. Since the program began, a total of $14,920 in grant monies has been distributed.

“We are so fortunate for the success of this remarkable program,” Mayor Carl Suraci said.
