Green Efforts, GSA Depot, Finances Key for GOP Focus

After winning three-year terms on the Township Committee, Gloria McCauley and Douglas Tomson outlined their goals.

Republicans Gloria McCauley and Douglas Tomson pledged to continue existing practices—particularly green efforts and fiscal responsibility— after winning seats on the Township Committee last night.

McCauley, who will serve her second three-year term on the Township Committee, received 3,973 votes. Tomson, who ran on the Republican ticket, received 3,710 votes.

The promises McCauley cited during her campaign shaped her priorities for the coming three years, particularly the efforts to introduce green and sustainable measures to the town.

"It's my goal to continue what we are in the process of right now with our efforts to be sustainable," McCauley said, noting the efforts to bring solar power to the roof.

McCauley intends to look at converting the GSA Depot, a 321-acre former munitions site, into a county park—also a plan that's been in the works for several years. According to the Township website, the Recreation Department's subcommittee last met to review the proposed park plan in October 2010.

McCauley and Tomson, who won his first term on the Township Committee, held the same sentiment regarding the town's finances and pledged to continue existing practices. Their goal is to continue to maintain the town's budget and keep taxes low, they said.

"I'm looking forward to sitting down with the department heads and looking at the budgets," Tomson said. "One of the principals we ran on was fiscal responsibility."
