Two recent graduates–Joseph DeLorenzo and Evan Edelman–were honored by the Township Committee on Tuesaday.
DeLorenzo was recognized for becoming an Eagle Scout and Edelman was honored for leading the Hillsborough High School baseball team to county and sectional championships.
DeLorenzo, a member of Troop 186, will be attending Rowan University in Glassboro for a dual degree in history and education.
His Eagle Scout project was repairing a retaining wall that prevented erosion at an in-ground pool at the Elks’ Camp Moore in northern New Jersey. The camp offers a vacation away from home for children with special needs.
Seven scouts in Troop 186 have attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 2012.
Edelman, a pitcher, led the Raider baseball team to a Somerset County championship and the North 2, Group IV sectional championship. The team was runnerup in the New Jersey Group IV state championship.
Edelman, who has played baseball since the age of 5, had a 7-3 record with five complete games in 11 starts.
The 6-foot-1 righthander had an ERA of 1.44 with 57 strikeouts. Edelman also showed his prowess at the plate, hitting .290 with 10 RBIs. He was named Most Valuable Player in the Somerset County finals and was named player of the year by the Star Ledger and Courier News.
Edelman will be attending the College of New Jersey where he will continue playing baseball.
