Bypass Section Opening to Become Official Monday

Governor, mayor will open roadway at Amwell Road entrance.

The ceremonial opening of the Peter J. Biondi Bypass between Amwell and Hillsborough roads will be held at 11:45 a.m. Monday at the Amwell Road entrance.

The event will include Gov. Chris Christie and Mayor Frank DelCore cutting a ribbon to officially open the road.

Residents planning to attend should arrive by 11:30 a.m.

The section opening Monday is the first phase of three, with extensions at the north end to connect to Route 206 at Old Somerville Road, and south the Route 206 at Mountainview Road.

Township officials lobbied to have the section of the road opened after work on it was completed. The state Department of Transportation had been planning to keep the road completely closed as work on the next phases was undertaken--Township Administrator Anthony Ferrera said the DOT called the road "cocooned."
