Want To Become A CERT Volunteer In Hillsborough?

Ever feel like you just want to help when a disastrous situation strikes your community?

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a program dedicated to teaching willing members of the community how to volunteer in the event of an emergency situation.

Volunteers go through an "all-hazard and all-risk training" course which, if completed, certifies them to help emergency services in certain situations.

"We have depended a great deal on our CERT volunteers in the past during hurricanes, weather occurrences as well as other community events, not just in Hillsborough but also in Somerset County," said Committeewoman Gloria McCauley, Liaison to Public Safety in a newsletter.

"We are looking to increase the membership of the Hillsborough-based CERT team.  The process would be to determine the level of interest from the public and we will then move forward with training initiatives," she added.
