Two Officers Heralded for Saving Lives

The Tuesday presented proclamations to two township police officers for their recent life-saving efforts.

Chief Paul Kaminsky presented officers Damien Chromowsky and Christopher Giraldi each with the department's CPR Lifesaving Award.

Chromowsky responded to a report of an unconscious female in her vehicle on Nov. 22, the proclamation said. Chromowsky found the woman who was sitting at the wheel of her car was not breathing, but had a pulse, the proclamation said.

He deployed the defibrillator in his patrol car and began rescue breathing until  the Hillsborough Rescue Squad arrived. When the woman’s pulse stopped, Chromowsky assisted the rescue squad in performing CPR.

After a second set of CPR, her pulse returned, she started breathing again and became conscious and alert. The rescue squad took her to Somerset Medical Center.

On Dec. 9, Chromowsky met with the victim, who by then had made a full recovery. The Township Committee’s proclamation cited Chromosky “for his quick and proper actions,” and extended to him the committee’s “appreciation for a job well done.”

Giraldi was presented a proclamation for his actions on Dec. 13. Giraldi responded to a call that a man had collapsed on the side of a road and was unresponsive.

Giraldi arrived and assisted members of the Hillsborough Rescue Squad Unit 79 perform CPR until the victim began to respond and breathe on his own. The man was taken to Somerset Medical Center where it was determined he had suffered a heart attack. The man was treated and has made a full recovery.

Kaminsky presented Giraldi with the police department’s CPR Lifesaving Award. The Township Committee’s proclamation cited Giraldi  “for his quick and proper actions."
