Rising Raritan Closed River Road

Runoff from Thursday night rain caused localized flooding in area.

River Road in Hillsborough was closed Friday afternoon, after the Raritan River flooded in the low-lying area near the Lyman Street Bridge into Raritan.

The road is closed between the Lyman Street Bridge and Roycefield Road. 

According to the U.S. Geological Survey monitoring, water levels should begin receding soon. The USGS monitors show levels of the South Branch already dropping at Neshanic Station, while the North Branch is cresting.

Downstream, the Raritan River flooded in Manville's low-lying Duke Park but has not flooded the roads yet. The USGS forecast calls for the river to rise more in Manville, before receding.

The Millstone River is also still rising, but is not flooding at this time.

The flooding complicates today's already challenging commuting through Hillsborough, which has been gacing issues all day. , followed by Valley Road being closed because of a downed tree.

Then, Beekman Road was closed at about 10 a.m. because of damage to utility poles along the road. The road was closed from River Road to New Centre Road at 10 a.m. but has reopened.
