Police: Salt Spreaders Stolen After Halloween Snow

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hillsborough Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Halloween weekend snow preceded the apparent theft of machines used to lessen icy conditions, according to the Hillsborough Township Police.

A Somerset landscaping business reported that four salt spreaders were stolen from a Millstone River Road property where the equipment was stored on Oct. 31.

The value of the theft was reported to be $4,000.

Hillsborough Police did not provide further information about the incident.

Abiyan Makonnen, 28, of Hillsborough, was charged with obstruction of justice after allegedly taking evasive action to avoid being stopped by an officer for a traffic violation on Nov. 12. Makonnen was released after also being charged with careless driving.

Andrew Hunter, 19, of Bridgewater, was charged with shoplifting $372 worth of clothing from the Route 206 Kohl’s on Nov. 9, police said. Hunter was released after processing.

A Woods Road resident reported that an ATV was stolen from the front yard of the residence some time between Oct. 28 and Nov. 7. The ATV is valued at $2,000.

$708 worth of power tools were reported stolen from an Amwell Road construction site. The thefts reportedly occurred between Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.

 Charlene Kabus, 45, of Hillsborough, was charged with driving while intoxicated after allegedly striking a tree on Auten Road with a black Buick on Nov. 1. Kabus allegedly obtained breath test results of .20 percent blood alcohol and was released after also being charged with careless driving and driving with an open container of alcohol.

Anne Rorke, 45, of Hillsborough, was charged with driving while intoxicated while allegedly driving a silver Chrysler on Amwell Road on Oct. 23. Rorke allegedly obtained breath test results of .28 percent blood alcohol and was released after also being charged with making an improper turn.
