Police: Man Reported Robbery to Cover Drunken Fall

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hillsborough Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Hillsborough man was charged with filing a false police report meant to cover up injuries sustained after falling while drunk, police said.

Jeffrey Valestin, 61, of Hillsborough, was charged with driving while intoxicated and filing a false police report about an armed robbery on Sept. 30.

According to Hillsborough Police, officers reported to Joey G's restaurant on Route 206 on a report of an armed robbery and found Valestin at the scene.

The subsequent investigation revealed that Valestin allegedly drove his vehicle into the establishment and concocted a story about being robbed to explain injuries he actually obtained from falling while getting into his vehicle, police said.

Valestin allegedly obtained breath test results of .26 percent blood alcohol and was released after processing.

Valestin was charged with driving while intoxicated and filing a false police report. He was released after processing.

An Oliver Court resident reported a burglary that occurred while the home was unoccupied during the daytime hours on Oct. 13. According to police, $2,280 of unspecified electronics were reported stolen. The Hillsborough Police Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation.

James Cornlelius, 43, of Hawthorne, was charged with driving while intoxicated after he was allegedly involved in a two-car crash on Route 206 on Oct. 10. Cornelius allgedly obtained breath test results of .13 percent blood alcohol and was released after also being charged with careless driving.

David Quinlan, 58, of Hillsborough, was charged with driving while intoxicated while allegedly driving a silver Ford on Willow Road on Oct. 1. Quinlan was released after also being charged with failing to keep right, failing to wear a seatbelt and failing to submit to breath tests, police said.

Brian Horsburgh, 21, of Hillsborough, was charged with driving while intoxicated while allegedly driving a black Honda on Route 206 on Sept. 30. Horsburgh allegedly obtained breath test results of .07 percent blood alcohol and was released after also being charged with failing to yield to another vehicle.

An employee of STS on Amwell Road reported that $175 worth of car batteries were stolen from a pallet located outside the business on Sept. 28. The theft occured during the overnight hours, according to police.
