Investigation Ongoing into Amwell Road Blaze

Prosecutor's office handling probe of fire that burned historic Hillsborough home.

The investigation into a fire that ripped through a historic Amwell Road home Sunday morning remains under investigation, a spokesman for the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said.

Capt. Jack Bennett, a spokesman for Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, said Monday the investigation remained ongoing and did not release further details.

A spokesman for the on Monday referred questions regarding the blaze to the prosecutor's office.

Hillsborough Chief Fire Marshal Chris Weniger said Sunday the fire was considered "suspicious." The cause of the fire has not been released.

The fire broke out at the single-family residence Sunday morning at about 7 a.m. Fire companies from Hillsborough, Neshanic and Flagtown responded to the blaze. Amwell Road between East Mountain and River roads was closed for hours while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The home, which was built in the 1800s, and the adjacent landscaping company are owned by John Lazorchak, who is also the chief of the Neshanic Fire Co.

Lazorchak, who has been trying to , has not been able to be reached for comment.

His attorney, Michelle Lamar, has also not returned messages for comment. A woman who answered the phone Monday at Lamar's Trenton firm, Sterns & Weinroth, said Lamar was out of the office.
