Intoxication Patrols Return with Holiday Season

Hillsborough Police will be looking for impaired drivers during December.

They’ll know if you've been drinking and nab you when you’re drunk—so the Hillsborough Township Police remind residents to drive sober this holiday season.

Beginning Monday, Dec. 5, Hillsborough Township Police will be cracking down on impaired drivers as part of this year’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” statewide campaign.

The campaign runs through Jan. 2, and will includes sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols. In addition, the Hillsborough Township Police Department will be conducting a driving while intoxicated checkpoint during the month-long campaign.

The program goal is to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving via high-visibility enforcement, as well as charging motorists who drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Residents who plan on drinking should:

  • Designate a driver who will not drink before going out.
  • Take mass transit, a taxi or ask a sober friend to drive home.
  • Spend the night where the activity is held.
  • Report impaired drivers to law enforcement. In New Jersey, drivers may dial #77 on their cell phones to report impaired drivers.
  • Always buckle up.
  • If you’re intoxicated and traveling on foot, the safest way to get home is to take a cab or have a sober friend or family member drive or escort you to your doorstep.
