Fire Burns Vehicles at Hillsborough Business

Three-alarm fire draws firefighters from multiple departments.

A vehicle fire at Hercules Enterprises, on Valley Road, at about 1:30 a.m. Monday burned as many as 20 vehicles stored at the business, police said. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined, but is not under investigation as arson.

Hercules Enterprises manufactures trailers and tanker trailers for trucks, but the fire involved vehicles owned by Co-Part Salvage Auction, which leases space at Hercules to store vehicles, police said.

The fire burned for some time, causing officials to request additional firefighters, incuding Manville, Somerville, Raritan, Finderne and Millstone firefighters. Hillsborough and Somerville Rescue Squads also responded, as well as the Somerset County Hazmat and Department of Envirnomental Protection.

Recently a family member commented about the trucks with junk cars going down Dukes Parkway West and Valley Road. Is having a junkyard an allowed use at Hercules?

what was involved to cause the DEP to show up? Is there a hazard close to residential homes within a 1/4 mile? Looks like the town needs to see what is really happening at these facilities as they allow more housing to drive taxes up.

The township has rented a space of land off of Roycefield Road to Adessa for vehicle storage. That is what that lot of about a million car (including flood damaged junkers) is.

A BIG THANK YOU to all the brave volunteer firefighters who showed up in the middle of the night to keep the rest of the township safe and soundly asleep, whom now undoubtedly have to go to work at their real jobs without a good nights rest. Any community can always use more people like that, instead of the ones who just see conspiracy and corruption behind anything that happens in town!

Caring about our emergency responders includes knowing what type of business is located at a site to which they are responding. It is important for their safety and so they know how to fight the fire. Neighbors should also know what is being stored near their homes. Where has conspiracy and corruption been mentioned? Another site?

Mark, the Adesa site was originally approved to store up to 1,265 vehicles....maybe it just seems like a milliion - LOL. Also, I believe that is county land, not township. http://hillsboroughnjjournal.blogspot.com/2009/02/adesa-in-hillsborough-temporarily.html

New Jersey already has a number of laws on the books which entitles you to know what chemicals and other hazards are stored in that or any other facility. Fire departments have pre-plains on all major structures in their area, and they already know what is being stored there. NJDEP and HAZmat, are commonly called out to fires of this nature. Pick the phone up and call the mayor or business administrator if you want to know the truth and the right answers. Better yet go to a committee meeting and ask. Forums like this just cause gossip and falsehoods. http://nj.gov/health/eoh/rtkweb/documents/rtkbro.pdf http://www.hillsborough-nj.org/Cit-e-Access/TownCouncil/?TID=45&TPID=5233

Hazmat and DEP are required because of oils and fluids in the vehicles which burned.

I thought you were only allowed to run 1 type of business at 1 location. B&W auto repair which was no Valley road also was not allowed to have the auto repair business and store the Hillsborough school buses no their property. RIP Bill
