Family Escapes Early-Morning Blaze on Abby Court

Three people at home when the fire broke out escape without injury.

No injuries were reported after a fire gutted a large, single-family home on Abby Court at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Three residents, ages, 55, 25 and 19, were safely out of the house when police arrived shortly after a 911 call at 2:43 a.m. The teen was taken to Somerset Medical Center for treatment of possible smoke inhalation.

The fire left the house in the Country Classics subdivision uninhabitable, and Hillsborough Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Social Services arranged for a place for the family to stay.

The cause of the fire has not been determined yet, and the investigation is continuing.

In addition to police, volunteer fire fighters from Hillsborough's four fire companies, as well as Franklin and Millstone Valley fire departments responded to the fire. Hillsborough and Somerville rescue squads also responded.

Anyone with information regarding the fire should contact the Hillsborough Police Department at 908-369-4323, ext. 8.
