Cops: Pedestrian Hurt After Struck, Pushed Off Road

Neshanic Station woman suffers minor injuries after she was struck while walking on River Road.

A Neshanic Station woman suffered only minor injuries after she was struck by a pickup truck and pushed off the roadway while she was walking in the northbound lane of River Road late Saturday night, said.

According to police, Leonora A. Torres, 34, was walking in the northbound lane when she was struck by a Ford pickup truck Saturday night shortly before midnight on River Road, about one-half mile north of Amwell Road.

The truck, driven by Thomas R. Benard Jr., 20, of Hillsborough, was travelling northbound when it struck Torres, pushing her off the side of the roadway, police said.

Torres was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for minor injuries, police said.

The roadway was closed for approximately 45 minutes while the accident was investigated.

In addition to the police, the Hillsborough Rescue Squad and the Somerset Medical Center MICU responded to the scene.

No further information was released. It was not immediately known if any summonses were issued.
