Coffee Maker Ignites Kitchen Fire on Collins Drive

Fire contained as resident puts out flames with extinguisher.

A coffee maker caused a kitchen fire Monday afternoon at a Collins Drive residence, according to the Hillsborough Police Department.

The homeowner managed to put out the fire with an extinguisher, while the Hillsborough Fire Department assisted to ventilate the smoke from the residence, according to a statement released by the police department.

The fire, which began shortly after 2:30 p.m., was caused by a coffee maker that was left plugged in, police said. The fire was contained to the kitchen area, but the Hillsborough Building Department deemed the residence  could not be occupied until damage is repaired, police said.
