I hope it didn't smell too bad. Back on a very hot and humid summer night in the early 1970's, a not so quite similar incident on NJ Route 23 in Morris County resulted in a need for the use of sanders and snow plows. Seems the tailgate came loose on a truck picking up meat renderings from various retailers dropped animal parts, blood and guts over a 3 mile stretch of the 4 lane divided highway. So NJDOT began with a couple of bucket loaders while the plows were hooked up and and sanders mounted which then went to limecrest quarry in Sparta to fill up with lime used for lawns and decontamination. Being around 90 degrees late at night the odor spread for miles.

It still stinks, you can smell the oil when the kids play football on Triangle Road.
