600 Gallons of Vegetable Oil Leaks Onto Roadways

Spill causes slick conditions, closes several Hillsborough roads for hours.

More than 600 gallons of used vegetable oil leaked from a tanker truck, closing several Hillsborough roadways for hours late Thursday afternoon.

The slick conditions closed portions of Triangle, Farm, More and Stockton roads for several hours starting at about 3:30 p.m., Hillsborough Police said.

The truck was operated by Scott Engle, of Allentown, Pa.-based Environmental Energy Recycling Corp., police said. The company was responsible for the cleanup, police said.

The Hillsborough Police, Rescue Squad, Volunteer Fire Co. 36, Volunteer Fire Co. 37, Fire Co. 38, Somerset County Hazmat, Hillsborough Fire Safety, Hillsborough Health Department, Hillsborough Office of Emergency Management, Hillsborough Department of Public Works, Somerset County Department of Public Works and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection all responded to the scene.
