150 Gallons of Fuel Leaks on Route 287 Median

Traffic not being disrupted during the cleanup.

About 150 gallons of diesel fuel are leaking into the grass median on Route 287 after a truck hit debris in the road around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

According to New Jersey State Police, a truck was traveling in the express lanes on Route 287 North near exit 20 in Bridgewater when it hit debris in the road, and ripped open its fuel tank.

From there, police said, about 150 gallons of diesel fuel began leaking from the truck.

Police said there is no storm drain in the road, so the fuel is leaking in the right shoulder of the road, and into the grass median.

Although a hazmat team has not yet been called, police said a fire department is assessing the scene.

At this point, state police said, no lanes are closed on the road, and they probably won't have to be because the truck is currently in the shoulder, and cleanup can be done there.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.
