Support Referendum to Let All Enjoy Open Space

I am quite surprised at the level of misinformation being presented by a small number of Democrat party members about the Open Space Referendum that has been placed on the November ballot by the Township Committee.

Despite the claims by those against the initiative, the ballot initiative is very clear and simple.  As I understand it, the initiative allows the township committee to use a small amount (20 percent) of the open space funds collected each year, for the purpose of improving our parks and open space.

As our community grows and we have more and more children participating in the stellar recreation programs offered in town, we should be looking for ways to improve our parks or develop new parks.  As a long standing member of the Township's Recreation Commission, I would welcome the opportunity for
potential improvements to some of our open space areas for recreational needs.

I also enjoy bike riding, walking and hiking.  Wouldn't it be nice if we had access to some of the open space we, the taxpayers, have purchased over the years?

I, for one, think we should be able to use the property
owned by the township.  I want to see more parks and trails and I think this initiative is a great way to achieve that goal.

I commend Mayor DelCore and the Township Committee for putting this issue to the voters to decide.  I will certainly be voting yes on the Open Space Referendum.  I urge my fellow township residents to also support this
initiative so that we all will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful open space we have in Hillsborough.
