I totally disagree with one Open Space FAQ.

That being:

Q. How much does each resident pay into the Open Space fund each year?

A. 2.8 cents per $100 dollars of assessed value.

That is simply not true.  While Hillsborough’s property owners portion of the Open Space Tax is indeed 2.8 cents per $100, we also pay an additional 3.2 cents to the Somerset County Open Space program, meaning we pay a total of 6 cents per $100, not 2.8 cents per hundred.  Also the tax is not levied on “each resident,” but on each lot of property.

This program is a sham,  just another government feel good but do nothing program that costs Hillsborough's taxpayers on average $250.00 a year and returns to them nothing.

I challenge the TC to put the entire program on the ballot next November.   Ask the residents of this town if they really want to continue to pay for this program, or perhaps suspend the tax collection side of it for the next 5 years and save the average Hillsborough taxpayer $1,250!  I’ll bet anyone dollars to donuts they won’t take that challenge, because they already know the vast majority of residents would rather have their $1,250.00 in their pockets instead of another litter strewn field that probably wasn’t going to be developed anyway in the middle of nowhere doing anything good for anyone.
