Democrats: Candidate Meet and Greet a Success

Hillsborough Democratic Organization talks about event held at township resident's house.

The following was submitted by the Hillsborough Democratic Organization.

Voters registered as independents as well as registered Democrats turned out to meet and greet Democratic candidates for political office at the home of Susan and Aldo Martinez in Hillsborough. The event ran from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14 and serious discussion ensued as the candidates mingled with the guests.
Special guests included:

  • Marie Corfield – Candidate for NJ Assembly District 16
  • Michael Goldberg – Candidate for Township Committee
  • Tony Pranzatelli and Will Galtieri - Candidates for Somerset County Freeholder
  • Joan Pritchard – Candidate for Somerset County Clerk

Marie Corfield announced that her campaign received the most grassroots nominations of any state legislative race in the country for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) "Essential Race" List. Each election cycle, the DLCC publishes a list of "Essential Races" around the country: competitive races for state legislature that are the most critical in a given cycle. The DLCC sets aside an additional ten spaces on the list for races chosen entirely through grassroots nominations. Corfield's race bested many high profile races around the country to win the top spot.

Goldberg discussed the need for diversity of opinion on the Township Committee, noting that the five Republicans currently holding those positions “agree with each other nearly 100 percent of the time.”

Pranzatelli recounted his experience as a member of the Borough Council and Council President of Bound Brook. Galtieri pointed out that his employment and academic qualifications would allow him to bring a different viewpoint to the Board of Chosen Freeholders. Pritchard reviewed her qualifications for the County Clerk position including several operations management positions with AT&T and the State of New Jersey.
