Longtime Resident Richard Birkland, 61, Dies

Retired UPS executive enjoyed golfing, grandchildren.

Longtime Hillsborough resident Richard A. Birkland, 61, of Bangor, Pa., died Monday in his home.

He had grown up in Griggstown, attending Franklin High School and Waynesboro College, before serving in the Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, he worked at Prudential for 24 years, and retired from UPS, where he was a Senior Business Analyst.

He enjoyed golfing and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his two children, Amy Weiser and Jeffrey Birkland; two grandchildren, Ian and Aiden; his sister, Nancy Bussinger and brother, Bob Birkland.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796, Route 206, Hillsborough, followed by interment at Griggstown Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
