Joan McKelvey, 82, Retired From North Plainfield Schools

Viewing Wednesday, with services scheduled for Thursday at Manville's Ketusky Funeral Home.

Joan Theresa McKelvey, 82, died Jan. 5, 2014, at Bridgeway Care Center in Hillsborough.

She was born in Jersey City, the daughter of the late John and Nora McKelvey.
She attended Holy Trinity High School in Westfield, and received her bachelor’s degree from Kean University in Union.

Joan was a resident of Hillsborough for the past 46 years, employed as a teacher for the North Plainfield Board of Education at the Stony Brook School for 23-1/2 years before retiring in 1992. Prior to that, she worked at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill for 11 years.

She was a member of the National Education Association, the New Jersey Education Association and the Somerset County Education Association.

Joan was a member of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville.

She is predeceased by her parents and by two sisters, Eileen Ringrose and Rosemary Zekert. She is survived by her dear friend Carolyn M. Krog of Hillsborough, her sister Denise Malone and her husband Thomas of Brick, and by 10 nieces and nephews. She is also survived by several great-nieces and great-nephews.

The viewing will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ketusky Funeral Home, with funeral services at 8:15 a.m. Thursday followed by a 9 AM Mass at Christ The King Roman Catholic Church in Manville. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.
