Janice Kovach, Candidate for Congress, to speak at HDA Meeting NOW POSTPONED TO FEBRUARY 19TH

Janice Kovach, Mayor of Clinton, former Director of the State of New Jersey Division of Women, and candidate for Congress, will speak to the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance at its next monthly meeting which  has been postponed to  Wednesday, February 19th at 7:00 PM sharp at Avalon Assisted Living, 393 Amwell Road in Hillsborough, just east of Route 206.  The meeting was originally scheduled for February 5th but has been postponed due to weather.  Mayor Kovach is seeking the nomination of the Democratic Party in the June Primary to run for the congressional seat now held by Leonard Lance in the 7th Congressional District that includes Hillsborough.

The Alliance plans to continue to have many interesting speakers and events at its monthly meetings in 2014, encouraging like-minded individuals to share in the camaraderie of fellow Democrats and progressives. On February 20th, the Politics Book Club will meet to discuss the book “Destiny of the Republic:  A tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President”, by Candice Millard.  It is the story of the assassination of James Garfield, and it is a fascinating read.  It’s not too long, so there is still time to read it.  The meeting will take place at Sal’s Restaurant and Pizzeria, at the CVS Shopping Mall on Triangle Road from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.  Please RSVP to Jim Bergstrom, james.bergstrom@comcast.net  no later than  February 18th.

A pot luck dinner is also being planned for March 9th with details to follow. This will be a great opportunity to meet other Democrats and get involved.   2014 is stacking up to be an exciting election year, what with the US Senatorial race at the top of the ticket, the fallout of Governor Christie’s high pressure political maneuvering coming into sharp public focus, and the need to re-focus on the issues that impact Hillsborough residents and all New Jerseyans – jobs, taxes, housing, affordable health care, open space preservation, transportation alternatives, public education excellence, and local business development.
